What type of personal data is collected and why

 

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the website, the data shown in the comments form as well as the visitor’s IP address and the browser user agent string are collected to facilitate spam detection.

An anonymized string created from the email address (otherwise called a hash) can be provided to the Gravatar service to see if it is in use. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/.
After approval of the comment the profile picture is visible to all in the context of the comment.

Media

If images are uploaded to the website the uploading of images that include embedded location data (EXIF GPS) should be avoided. Visitors of the website could download and extract the location data from images on the website.

If a comment is left on our website, the option of saving the name, the email address and the website in the cookies can be choosen. They are used for convenience so that there is no need to fill the details again when another comment is left. These cookies will last for one year.

If  the login page is visited, a temporary cookie will be set to determine if the browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is deleted once the browser is closed.

When log in, several cookies will be set to save the login information and the screen display options. Login cookies last for two days and screen options cookies last for one year. If „Remember Me“ is selected, the login will last for two weeks. Once logged out from the account the login cookies will be removed.

When an article is edited or published an additional cookie will be saved in the browser. This cookie does not include personal data, but simply indicates the ID of the article modified. It expires after 1 day.
